Oven-Baked Mangalitsa Bacon

Oven-Baked Mangalitsa Bacon — recipe and ingredient inspiration

Ingredient and serving inspiration. Your finished dish will vary.

Even oven heat makes breakfast bacon easy to cook in batches. Keep an eye on it near the end; thickness and cure affect browning.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound sliced Mangalitsa bacon
  • A rimmed baking sheet
  • Foil or parchment rated for the oven temperature

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 375°F. Line a rimmed sheet pan and arrange the bacon in a single layer.
  2. Bake until cooked, turning the pan if needed. Begin checking after 12 minutes; thick slices may take longer. Follow any package cooking instructions.
  3. Choose a tender bite or continue cooking for firmer edges. Transfer with tongs to a plate lined with paper towels.
  4. Let the pan cool before handling the rendered fat. Refrigerate cooked leftovers promptly.

Cook with confidence

Use a food thermometer: whole pork chops, steaks and roasts need 145°F followed by at least a 3-minute rest; ground pork and fresh sausage need 160°F. For ham, follow its label: fully cooked ham from a USDA-inspected plant reheats to 140°F; other cooked ham and leftovers to 165°F. Raw fresh ham needs 145°F and a 3-minute rest.
